Why it matters
Why work with a licensed RCIC?
In Canada, only three groups can legally charge a fee for immigration advice or representation:
- 1Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs), licensed by the CICC
- 2Lawyers and paralegals who are members of a Canadian law society
- 3Notaries who are members of the Chambre des notaires du Québec
Unlicensed "agents" who charge for advice are breaking Canadian law. If something goes wrong, you have no protection, and their mistakes or fake documents can lead to refusals or a 5-year ban for misrepresentation.
When you work with an RCIC, you get:
- A professional who must meet education, exam and yearly training rules
- A written retainer agreement and clear fees
- A professional code of conduct and insurance
- The right to complain to the CICC if something goes wrong
