How BC PNP draws work

  1. You register in the BC PNP Online portal for the Skilled Worker stream (or its Express Entry BC option) and get a score out of 200. The score is based on human capital factors, such as work experience, education and language, and economic factors, such as your wage and where in BC your job is.
  2. Your registration stays in the pool for up to 12 months, or until you're invited.
  3. BC holds invitation rounds. Each round targets a priority group, such as health care workers or construction trades, and sets its own minimum score or wage.
  4. If you're invited, you have 30 calendar days to submit a complete application and pay the $1,750 application fee.

Health Authority stream: there's no registration or draw. If you have a qualifying job offer and your health authority supports you, you apply directly.

An invitation isn't guaranteed even if you qualify. BC chooses which groups to invite based on its yearly nomination allocation and its priorities.

The 2026 draw groups: Care, Build and Innovate

BC's current priorities, from WelcomeBC's selection of workers list:

Draw groupWho it targetsExtra condition for a targeted invitation
Care: HealthPriority health occupations, such as registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical lab and imaging technologists, nurse aides and social workersNurse aides (NOC 33102) must be registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
Care: ChildcareEarly childhood educators (NOC 42202)A one-year or five-year ECE certificate from the ECE Registry
Care: EducationFrench-speaking elementary, kindergarten and secondary school teachers (NOC 41220, 41221)Employed in BC's public K-12 system, with CLB 5 or higher in French
Care: Veterinary careVeterinarians and animal health technologists (NOC 31103, 32104)Some rounds require a valid professional designation
Build: Construction tradesWelders, electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, carpenters, millwrights, heavy-duty mechanics and HVAC mechanicsA valid trade certificate from SkilledTradesBC, or a registered apprenticeship, matching your job offer
Innovate: High Economic ImpactHighly skilled workers in any sectorSelected by points, or by a high wage and yearly income in a TEER 0–3 job

See WelcomeBC's selection of workers list for the full list of occupation codes.

Innovate draws: points or wage

High Economic Impact rounds have two parts. One invites registrants above a minimum score. The other invites anyone whose job offer meets a minimum hourly wage and yearly income in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation, with no score cut-off. The wage threshold changes from round to round, so check the table above.

Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support initiative

A one-time initiative to nominate up to 250 health authority employees working in cleaning or security jobs (NOC 64410, 65310, 65312) in rural or remote BC, outside Metro Vancouver, Central Okanagan and most of the Capital Region. Applicants needed at least 9 consecutive months of full-time work with the same health authority, and were invited by points. Registration closed on October 7, 2026.

Health Authority stream

Workers with a job offer from a BC public health authority apply directly through the Health Authority stream, without a draw. See our Health Authority stream guide.

Entrepreneur Immigration

Entrepreneur rounds are held separately for the Base and Regional streams, each with its own minimum score.

Is my score high enough?

Compare your score with the recent minimum for your own draw group, not with other groups. Also remember:

  • Minimum scores move up and down between rounds.
  • If your job isn't in a Care or Build group, your main route is usually an Innovate round, which has needed much higher scores or a high wage.
  • Your score is only an estimate until BC checks your documents.
  • A small change, such as a higher wage, a better language result or a job outside Metro Vancouver, can lift you above the cut-off.

How to raise your BC PNP score before the next draw

Points from the BC PNP Skills Immigration Program Guide (June 2026):

  1. Wage: each whole dollar of hourly wage above $15 adds 1 point, up to 55 points at $70/hour.
  2. Language: points come from your lowest CLB skill: CLB 4 = 5 points, up to CLB 9+ = 30. Valid English and French tests (CLB 4+) add 10 more.
  3. Area: Metro Vancouver 0, Squamish, Abbotsford, Agassiz, Mission and Chilliwack 5, the rest of BC 15, plus 10 for regional work experience or regional study.
  4. Canadian experience: 1 year of directly related work in Canada adds 10 points.
  5. Current employer: already working full-time for your BC employer in the same job adds 10 points.
  6. Professional designation: a BC designation for your job, such as a SkilledTradesBC certificate or an ECE certificate, adds 5 points. For Care and Build groups, it's often also what makes you eligible for a targeted invitation.
  7. Update your registration whenever anything changes. BC won't invite you retroactively if your registration was out of date.
