Express Entry Job Offer Without an LMIA: How to Add It to Your Profile

Since November 3, 2026, a job offer doesn't need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to count in Express Entry. But IRCC's online form hasn't caught up: it still asks about an LMIA. If you answer it the wrong way, your offer may not be accepted.

This guide shows what IRCC tells you to enter, what makes an offer valid, and how many points you can get.

What to enter in your profile

IRCC tells candidates to go to Work history in the profile, include the job offer, and answer these fields:

Question or fieldWhat to enter
Was a positive LMIA issued for the job offer in Canada?Yes
LMIA Number00000
LMIA Issuance DateJanuary 1, 2026
LMIA Expiry DateJanuary 1, 2029

You also need the job's start date, the employer's name and address, and the NOC code.

Choosing "yes" feels wrong when you don't have an LMIA, but it's IRCC's own instruction while its system catches up. Check IRCC's job offer page before you submit, in case this has changed.

How many points does a job offer add?

High-wage occupation levelCRS points
At least twice the median wage100
At least 1.5 times the median wage70
At least 1.3 times the median wage50
Not on the high-wage list0

You get the higher of your job offer points or your Canadian experience points, not both. Having a real LMIA gives you no extra points or priority.

What makes a job offer valid

Your offer must:

  • be recent and in writing
  • be full-time, in a skilled job
  • last at least 1 year from when you become a permanent resident
  • set out your pay and deductions, duties, and conditions such as hours
  • not come from an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada
  • not come from an employer on IRCC's list of ineligible employers

The offer can be for an existing or a new position, and with an existing or a new employer.

An officer still checks that it's genuine

No LMIA doesn't mean no checks. An officer must be satisfied the offer is real, including that the employer is active in the business and can fulfill the offer. You'll need the evidence to back it up when you apply.

Be careful of anyone selling job offers. Paying for a job offer, or submitting one that isn't real, can lead to a finding of misrepresentation and a 5-year ban.

Your offer may still matter if it isn't high-wage

An offer outside the high-wage list adds no CRS points, but it can still matter:

  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program and some provincial nominee streams use job offers for eligibility.
  • On the Federal Skilled Worker 67-point grid, a valid offer can add points. Try our FSW calculator.

IRCC says to keep the details of any job offer in your profile so you stay eligible for these programs.

FAQs

Do I still need an LMIA for Express Entry?

No. Since November 3, 2026, no Express Entry job offer needs an LMIA or an LMIA exemption.

Is it lying to enter LMIA number 00000?

No. These are the placeholder details IRCC itself tells candidates to enter until its system is updated. Don't add anything beyond what IRCC asks for.

Do I need to work for the employer already?

No. Job offers can be with an existing or a new employer.

Is the high-wage list based on my salary?

No. It's based on the typical wage for your NOC across Canada, not what you personally earn.
